HAPPENINGS AT ST.
MONICA’S PARISH!
For those of you who may not have been to church lately, our new pastor – Father Michael Asorgoe, is a missionary priest from Ghana. (He speaks very good English and French). He is bringing many new and exciting ideas and programs to our church. Some of the programs he is offering had been done years ago, but certainly not in recent years. We are most grateful for all the energy and time he is putting in to these programs for all of us. Please feel welcome to attend masses.
Some of the programs being offered are:
Arise in Christ! This is a Saturday morning bible study lasting approximately 1 hour. We follow the “Arise” program, have a little song, bible study, reflection, discussion and prayer. We follow this 1 hour long fellowship by socializing, have a cup of tea or coffee and enjoying each other’s company . It is nice to sit and talk about our Lord, Jesus Christ with people who are not afraid to hear the word, “God” being spoken aloud. In these troubled, hectic times, being together with others in faith, brings us a reminder that God is here, he has not left us. He is only waiting for us to call on him and he will bring us comfort, love and peace.
Anointing of the Sick! Father Michael is offering this every 3 months. It will be during a Wednesday evening Mass. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you know of anyone in need, please invite them to come to Mass for the anointing and laying on of hands. You can find out the date by calling the office or asking one of the regular parishioners.
Blessings for Birthdays and Anniversaries: Father gives a Blessing for all who have birthdays or anniversaries during the month. This takes place during Mass on the last Saturday and Sunday of each month. Please pass on your birthday & anniversary month so the information can be included in the second Bulletin of each month.
Cemetery Mass: Father held a Mass at the cemetery this past year. It was very well received and therefore, he will have another one this year. Again, all individuals are welcome to attend this beautiful service.
UPCOMING: Father Michael is working to start a group for single women from the community of all denominations. This is for women who may be struggling with being alone and lonely and having problems coping. Father Michael has approached other clergy from the community and it is his hope that they will share in this program with him.
On the social side of things:
We have occasional get-togethers in the lower meeting room. We may have a pot luck dinner (which is mouth watering each time), or a dinner may be provided by the Social Committee. We sometimes will just have a tea/coffee and a snack get together to allow us time to socialize. We usually have something for special occasions like Christmas, around Easter, etc.
Each year St. Monica's has had a Fund Raiser and events include - Silent Auction/White Elephant Table/Penny Sale
Another wonderful project that you have to see to appreciate is our Lighted Cross! This cross was built by Leo Paul Guindon, with the help of students and teacher from École St. Joseph. The cross is 6’ high and has 466 lights on it! It hangs on the back wall of the church. The cross was built as a means to remember and pray for current and departed members of our family and friends. You can purchase a light on the cross for an annual fee of $20.00. Anyone interested in purchasing a light, please call the rectory.
The only other thing we would like you to know, is that a ride will be made available to Mass or any of our functions by one of our parishioners for anyone in need. Just call the rectory! We have very willing drivers!
That is about all that is new with our parish currently!
We hope you have enjoyed our newsletter, and we hope also, if you have been away from us for some time, please come back and join us! We know the world is very busy, but sometimes it’s nice to take an hour each week to just sit back and pray to the one who is always with us. He is there through good and bad times and He will carry you through any hardships you may be experiencing. He is also there through your joyous times. Please come out and enjoy the Glory of God!
God Bless you!
